I was born and raised in Wuhu(芜湖- means "Duckweed lake" cause it has many small lakes covered with duckweed), a small city in Anhui province. 1hr drive from Nanjing & 3hr drive from Shanghai.
The city had its glory days when China was an agricultural country. At that time Wuhu was called "Jiuzi" 鸠兹, one of the earliest records of the city name comes from a famous Chinese poem 《诗经·周南》: “关关睢鸠,在河之洲”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_of_Poetry ,they say Near Huhu, Spotted doves have gathered so densely that they cover the ground like a layer of matting. Since the water resource is rich, it became one of the fourth 鱼米之乡 in China. Translate to land of fish and rice, sort of like land of milk and honey in English. A Dove's statue is now seen as a symbol of the city. Nowadays, the city doesn't have much presence among all the big cities. But it's precious in my eyes.

I grew up often seeing my dad getting down on his knee with a rose in his mouth and doing goofy dances for my mom. Made her laugh. I thought every couple was like that for quite a while. It turned out they were the cutest. They were literally born next door, grew up together, fell in love when they were still kids, and now grew old together, like how the fairy tale ended, and live happily ever after. The tricky part for me is that I always felt that I was just the extra. They were very strict parents, but at the same time gave me a lot of room when I grew up, encouraged me to develop my interests kungfu, painting, basketball, and swimming... let me travel alone to Beijing when I was 12 with $20 a day. A lot of freedom as a young girl. I don't know if I'll ever be capable of letting go of control like my parents did. Oh, Maybe they just don't care that much about me ... :0
Things I like:
Painting. My favorite painting artist is John Singer Sargent, I love his loose and confident skill. He's kind of a shallow jerk, only paints for the rich for high commissions. No cool concept, just pure bloody skill. But his skill.... I did one of his paintings for fun
Basketball. I was like a town boy as a teenager, loving playing basketball. I was on our college team. Love watching the NBA. Michael Jordan was Jerry&me's idol when we grew up. It may connect us when we meet on the train.
Photography. Love ppl watching, especially loving taking photos of kids.
Like anything about the ocean, swimming in the ocean is the best, I love diving, just started to learn how to surf. Lived within 2 miles of the ocean since I left college. Can't live without it.
Love Tom & Jerry
Love old stuff ( It takes a whole episode, let's talk about it at another time)
Love cooking, only order take out when I have no choice.
