Where were you born and where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
I grew up in the city of HuaiYin (淮阴,later re-named to Huai'An 淮安) in eastern China before going to Beijing for college. - Always miss the rivers and lakes of the area.
I'm currently living in northwest suburb of Chicago with my wife Jing and two daughters, Clara and Florence, aged 9 and 7 now. My wife and I met in grad school in U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where both of us got our degrees, hers in Psychology and mine in Physics.
I always wanted to be a scientist since I was a kid, and have hence pursued that dream all the way to a research job in Argonne National Laboratory after graduation. A few years into this position, though, I started to discover another passion of myself in coding and computing, which would eventually lead me to Gradual.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Going out for a nature walk with my wife and kids on a sunny spring day, ideally with some hill-climbing, but Chicagoland is just soooo flat (sigh).
Would you say you’re more of an extrovert or an introvert?
I'm definitely more on the introvert side, never an easy job for myself to break ice with anyone new to me :)
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Certain fish or shrimp, locally caught in my hometown, cooked by my mom.
